The Offaly Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
(OSPCA) is a voluntary organisation dedicated to the welfare of animals in
County Offaly. It is affiliated to the Irish Society for Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA). Our top priority is to encourage the spaying
and neutering of cats and dogs in order to reduce the number of unwanted
kittens and pups. We do this by subsidising the cost of surgery for
medical cardholders. Articles in the media help raise public awareness. We
also rehome unwanted cats and kittens and provide temporary accommodation
and care where necessary. A programme to deal with feral cats is
implemented. Abandoned dogs are taken into foster care and rehomed where
possible. All of this costs money. A Department of Agriculture grant
goes a long way towards funding the spaying and neutering programme but it
has to be augmented by intensive fund raising efforts.
how_people_can_help? We dream of receiving a large sum of money or an acre
or two of land to facilitate the setting up of an animal rescue centre. We
are always looking for helpers. |
