He loves to go for walks and thankfully has learned to walk properly on a leash. He gets along with all the other dogs here, and is learning to control his youthful exuberance. In spite of this, there is not a nasty bone in his body, and he unwinds quickly, and has learned some manners and his name. Rudy Rudy was found as a stray on January 21st, 2008 in Meadowview, Drogheda, County Louth. His owners have not been found, so he is looking for a new home asap. Rudy is a lovely, medium size, male Staffie/possibly Dachshund crossbreed, approx. 1 year old and he is full of fun and just loves everyone and everything. He is great with people and other dogs but no cats please! Rudy is an active dog who loves his walks and chasing around and playing. Rocco Rocco is a wonderful, handsome dog, who is looking for a new home where he would have company during the day. He is a large male, Doberman/Lab x, about 18 months old and is fully vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. He is great with people, including children, other dogs and even cats! He loves to run and play, loves his walks but most of all loves company more than anything. He is housetrained, good in the car and will make a brilliant pet and companion for someone. Rocco was originally found as a stray in May 2007 and went to a new home in Sept. 2007. His new owners did great work with him, including obedience training and loved him dearly but Rocco displayed separation anxiety while they were at work everyday, so unfortunately and reluctantly they had to give him back to Drogheda Animal Rescue. So Rocco's main requirement of a new home is that he has company for most of the day, and in return, he will be a wonderful pet and companion. 2Cats DUCHESS and TOULOUISE (yes, named from the cats in the movie Aristocrats!) are a gorgeous brother and sister who are looking for a new home. They are 2.5 years old and have been together their whole lives, so we want them homed together. They are both VERY big cuddly cats with amazing personalities! OSCAR Oscar is a small Terrier X. He is male - 4 Months old. Vacinated but too young to be neutered just yet. Murph Murph was found as a stray in the Rosnaree area, Co. Meath in early February 2008. He was dirty and tired and hungry. He had obviously been on the loose for a while. Poor Murph was happy to be taken in by a member of the public and given some food and a warm, safe place to sleep. Although he didn't ask for it, he also got a bath a few days later as well! Murph was not wearing a collar and is not microchipped. As no owners have come forward for him, Murph is now looking for a new home asap. Murph would seem to be a Kerry Blue cross. His coat is more wire-haired than curly and he has some white on his chest, so perhaps a bit of Collie in there somewhere too. He is only about 6 mths old but his time on the street has made him look older. One thing is definite - Murph does NOT like cats! No way, no how. So a cat-free home please. Murph is now fully vaccinated and neutered. Fiona Based in County Offaly, Orchard Greyhound Sanctuary specializes in caring for and socializing its hounds in a caring and rural home environment. All the hounds here are neutered, vaccinated, wormed and otherwise in excellent condition. Fiona is just two years old and the very tiniest greyhound I have ever seen. Almost pure white, but with a little black around one eye and ear, Fiona came from bad circumstances and right now is quite afraid of people, though curious about them and slowly learning to enjoy life. She gets along very well with the other dogs, and is making good progress with housetraining. Also very good in the car and on the leash, Fiona would at this point need a quiet and experienced owner. Crilly This is Crilly. She is a mature girl who was found on Clogherhead beach on February 25th 2008. She is approx. 9-10 years old and was absolutely exhausted when found. She slept for two whole days, just waking up long enough to eat, do her business and then go straight back to sleep! After her big rest, she was ready for a normal routine and loves her walks and loves company. Crilly (named after the person who found her) was not wearing a collar and is not microchipped. She knows lots of commands and little tricks, so was obviously loved and well cared for by someone in the past. An ideal home for Crilly would have a nice, secure garden and an owner to give her the lifestyle, love and attention she so richly deserves. Crilly would make a great pet for someone who can appreciate the companionship and steady presence offered by a mature dog. Christopher Based in County Offaly, Orchard Greyhound Sanctuary specializes in caring for and socializing its hounds in a caring and rural home environment. This quiet and sad little man arrived here in mid-March, and was so run down I assumed he was elderly. However, it turns out he is closer to 18 months and just had a bad start in life. He has improved beautifully, and responds well to his name, is housetrained and excellent on the leash, gets along with the other dogs, loves the car, and is cat-friendly. Jasmine Jasmine is 2 year old, neutered female German Shepherd/Collie crossbreed . She was surrendered into the care of DAR because her owner was not allowed to keep her in rented accommodation. Jasmine is very nervous of most strangers, especially men, due to an incident when she was 3 months old, where she was beaten by burglars who broke into her home. As a result of this traumatic experience, Jasmine prefers women and would be happiest homed to a woman owner. Jasmine is very affectionate with those she trusts, loves to play games, and enjoys her walks. She is very obedient and travels very well in the car. She is a large dog and requires an owner with big dog experience and someone willing to do some socialisation with her, so that she can slowly learn that in most normal situations, there is nothing to be frightened of. Doggie We have been caring for Doggie, a 14-yr-old Pomeranian, since he hobbled into our lives in Dublin. That was 10 years ago and at the time, the vet who diagnosed his limp said he was four or five years old. Doggie recovered from his leg strain, ran away from us several times, befriended two house cats and two other rehomed dogs, and now is getting around slowly. That's creating problems because he competes for floor space with our little seven-month-old girl who has not figured out how to stop her baby walker. We're afraid Doggie will get hurt in the environment he long considered his own space. He's also put himself at risk with the busy national road outside by wandering down the middle stripe when friends have left our front door wide open. Doggie is a friendly, older dog. He has to have small hard food or soft dog food because his teeth are falling out. His hearing isn't as good as before or his selective hearing has become much more precise. We want to rehome Doggie directly or minimise the time he spends among a cluster of other dogs. When he's in the kennels, he barks himself hoarse and he gets upset with cold concrete. Just three years old in April 2008, Tiger has neither stripes nor a ferocious temperament, and in fact he is a very placid and easygoing sort of dog, and is a good candidate as a first greyhound or even first dog for someone or some family. He gets along very well with the other dogs here, and comes across as a dog who has always been handled kindly. Tiger needs a small bit more weight on him and some improvement to his coat, but he is otherwise ready for a home. Tiger is learning not to pull on the leash, but is excellent in the car and responds well to his name. A happy, quiet, gentle and playful boy, he will make an ideal addition to anyone's home. Three German Shepherd pups female Well these little ladies are just the most adorable little girls. Their personalities are so strong even at that age it's funny to watch them.One is quite timid and quiet - I think she's a bit of a drama queen really. Squealing at everything she doesn't like.Another is so out-going and brazen. She owns the house already! Fred Fred the Greyhound was found in November 2007 at McDonald's fast food restaurant in Drogheda, Co Louth. He is a large, male Greyhound, approximately 2-years old, and was not wearing a collar and is not microchipped. Fred is mainly black with white on his chest and toes. He was hungry and very thin when found and had a lot of cuts and bruises on his body, as well as fleas and lice. However, he is coming along nicely and is getting used to regular meals and a bit of love and attention. Fred gets along well with other dogs and loves their companionship. Millie Female 1 year old Labrador, This girl is a gentle, quiet dog who never stops wagging her tail. She is excellent with children from smallies to older. She is slightly bigger than spaniel size. She is houstrained, settles well at night and just loves cuddles and playing with tennis balls. She is good with other dogs too. Zeus Young male Lab/great dane X, This big fella has settled in so quickly and so well. He really is a big softie, but cheeky, stole a piece of bread off the table today when my back was turned. He doesn't seem to have any issues apart from the cheekiness. I ate my dinner on a tray in front of the tv last night and he just lay quietly, no begging or interest at all. This morning one of my dogs who is half his size decided that Zeus' breakfast smelt nicer than hers, even though it was exactly the same, and he just stepped back away from the bowl and let her eat. Hardly a tottering oldie, Clara has no idea at all how old she is, and in fact is in a group with 3 much younger dogs. Now Clara is a bit bossy and thinks she is Queen Bee sometimes (which is why she is with the young ones! THey need her to supervise!), but she is not at all prone to biting or otherwise hurting other dogs. She loves her walks, gets along with the dogs in her group, loves people, and is excellent out running loose in the fields. Clara loves the night routine, and rushes to her bed at bedtime and sits at attention, staring intensively until I come to give her a bedtime snack. Charlotte Based in County Offaly, Orchard Greyhound Sanctuary specialises in caring for and socialising its hounds in a caring and rural home environment. All the hounds for adoption neutered, vaccinated, wormed and otherwise in excellent condition. Charlotte is approaching 5 years of age and is a sweet-natured little beauty. She is quite small and gentle, and gets along with other dogs, loves people, rides well in the car, is good on the leash and is doing well at getting housetrained. A close relative of Tango, they have almost identical coats, though Charlotte's has a lot of unusual white flecking in it. Toffee Puppy This is Toffee Puppy. Male approx 5/6 months old. He is going to be a large breed dog about the size of a Labrador or German Shepherd. Toffee has all of his vaccinations, is vet checked and he is fully insured (will be transferred to new owners). He has an excellent temperament and currently lives with children. Rehoming due to genuine circumstances. He will need training and further socialisation.
