We also maintain a list of animals, the owners of which, for one reason or another, need to find them new homes. So we endeavour to find accommodation for them too.
We have a collie neutering scheme whereby, with the help of the Department of Agriculture, we provide vouchers to the value of €60.00 to try to reduce the number of unwanted collie pups.
We also operate a feral cat neutering scheme. We supply cat traps on loan to people or institutions with cat problems. Cats are trapped humanely, neutered and returned. We offer some financial assistance towards the cost of neutering.
We have an education programme whereby about twenty schools or youth groups are visited each year and given a talk on animal welfare.
These activities, of course cost money. We organize fundraising events, place collecting boxes in shops etc. around the county, but this barely covers the cost of the limited services we are able to provide. It is our aim to set up a properly equipped shelter for lost and stray dogs and cats once we have acquired adequate long term funding for the purpose.
