Click on the thumbnail for a larger image | Tristan Orchard Greyhound Sanctuary specializes in caring for and socializing its hounds in a caring and rural home environment. All the hounds here are neutered, vaccinated, wormed and otherwise in excellent condition.Tristan is a medium/large handsome, friendly and exuberant young chap of 2+ yrs. He loves to go for walks and thankfully has learned to walk properly on a leash. He gets along with all the other dogs here, and is learning to control his youthful exuberance. In spite of this, there is not a nasty bone in his body, and he unwinds quickly, and has learned some manners and his name. A non-stop happy fellow, Tristan will make an excellent companion, and would also do well as a playmate for a very large and playful dog. Click on the thumbnail for a larger image | Poppy This is Poppy, a six year old black bitch with white flecks throughout her fur. She is a full greyhound and won a lot of races in her day. She is of no use to her owner any more and simply not wanted. She needs to gain some confidence and she will be a super dog. She is shy but as each day goes by she is getting a little better. She will be spayed and fully vaccinated and wormed before she can go to a good home. You can see in her eyes that she is waiting for that special someone to take care of her. She has given her all and now is just cast away. No wonder she feels so alone. If you can give this gentle dog a special home, please phone Rosie on 022 24008 or email us. Based in County Offaly, Orchard Greyhound Sanctuary specializes in caring for and socializing its hounds in a caring and rural home environment. All the hounds here are neutered, vaccinated, wormed and otherwise in excellent condition. Brus is a very large, exuberant and playful boy. In spite of his size, he plays well with all the other dogs and is very quiet and mannerly in the house....though I would not leave a roast chicken at nose level!!! Brus is very good on the leash and in the car, ADORES people, and is in training now for being allowed to run loose in nearby fields. Five years old, Brus has many many more years of zest in him. With a stunning velvety coat and just bursting with personality, Brus really needs to go to a home experienced with large dogs...and if it has a cat or two, then you should know that Brus so far is impressing us with his lack of reaction to cats. Click on the thumbnail for a larger image | Christopher Based in County Offaly, Orchard Greyhound Sanctuary specializes in caring for and socializing its hounds in a caring and rural home environment. All the hounds up for adoption are neutered, vaccinated, wormed and otherwise in excellent condition. This quiet and sad little man arrived here in mid-March, and was so run down I assumed he was elderly. However, it turns out he is closer to 18 months and just had a bad start in life. He has improved beautifully, and responds well to his name, is housetrained and excellent on the leash, gets along with the other dogs, loves the car, and is cat-friendly. He still needs time for his coat and skin to improve, but he is otherwise now a cheerful but quiet and very adoptable little lurcher. CONTACT:The Orchard Greyhound Sanctuary (0868601674) email |
Click on the thumbnail for a larger image | Fern Fern is a beautiful light coloured brindle greyhound. We think she is about 18 months to two years old. Her only mistake in life is she failed her time trials and therefore was no good in greyhound racing circles. It is hard to imagine such a beautiful dog is no good just because she was not fast enough. I am sure she must wonder why nothing else counts. We all do. Doesn't loyalty, love, friendliness, companionship etc. etc. make any difference? Apparently not. She is lovely and friendly and would make someone a forever loyal friend. She will be spayed, have all her shots and will be wormed before she goes to her new home. To find out more about Fern, please phone Rosie on 022 24008 or email us. All the hounds here are neutered, vaccinated, wormed and otherwise in excellent condition. Tango is a 2 yr old, medium/large male greyhound. With impressive racing bloodlines, he still somehow did not make the grade for racing, and was left in a Dublin pound to be put to sleep. This striking lad is friendly, well-behaved, and gets along with other dogs nicely. Not too boisterous and yet still loves to play, Tango is turning into a biddable and well behaved boy. He travels well in the car, is being socialised to cats, and will make a handsome and dedicated companion. All the hounds for adoption are neutered, vaccinated, wormed and otherwise in excellent condition. Just three years old in April 2008, Tiger has neither stripes nor a ferocious temperament, and in fact he is a very placid and easygoing sort of dog, and is a good candidate as a first greyhound or even first dog for someone or some family. He gets along very well with the other dogs here, and comes across as a dog who has always been handled kindly. Tiger needs a small bit more weight on him and some improvement to his coat, but he is otherwise ready for a home. Sandy is a smiler and likes to hug people, but in a very gentle way and she is quiet and smooth, and good with children, she has never met non greyhounds though, so we don't know about her reaction to other breeds. Amber is a little nervous, and with strangers she's a bit shy at first, but as you can see from the picture she makes friends very quickly and likes to hug people, but in a very gentle way. All the hounds here are neutered, vaccinated, wormed and otherwise in excellent condition. Clara is one of our golden greyhounds - 9 yrs old and full of energy and affection. Hardly a tottering oldie, Clara has no idea at all how old she is, and in fact is in a group with 3 much younger dogs. Now Clara is a bit bossy and thinks she is Queen Bee sometimes (which is why she is with the young ones! THey need her to supervise!), but she is not at all prone to biting or otherwise hurting other dogs. She loves her walks, gets along with the dogs in her group, loves people, and is excellent out running loose in the fields. Clara loves the night routine, and rushes to her bed at bedtime and sits at attention, staring intensively until I come to give her a bedtime snack. Click on the thumbnail for a larger image | Sylva Sylva is a pretty greyhound of a most unusual colour and we have never had an all white greyhound before. She has tiny light brown spots on her ears but other than that is totally white. She is three years old and has never raced. She is quiet and a bit shy but once she gets to know her new owners she will come out of her shell. She is getting more friendly every day. Sylva needs to gain some confidence and that will happen with all the wonderful and friendly care she is now getting. Already she is getting much better and is not so shy. She comes up to you to be petted. She will have all her shots, worming and spaying done in the next few weeks. For more information on Sylva, please phone Rosie on 022 24008. Click on the thumbnail for a larger image | Fiona Based in County Offaly, Orchard Greyhound Sanctuary specializes in caring for and socializing its hounds in a caring and rural home environment. All the hounds here are neutered, vaccinated, wormed and otherwise in excellent condition. Fiona is just two years old and the very tiniest greyhound I have ever seen. Almost pure white, but with a little black around one eye and ear, Fiona came from bad circumstances and right now is quite afraid of people, though curious about them and slowly learning to enjoy life. She gets along very well with the other dogs, and is making good progress with housetraining. Also very good in the car and on the leash, Fiona would at this point need a quiet and experienced owner.
